At this time of year, the rains are increasing in frequency and the temperature is rapidly dropping, which means for many of us concern about our rising is also heightening. The is still a major concern for many people up and down the UK, and this means a lot of us are looking for ways to keep down our , which has led one expert to issue a warning about one seemingly innocuous household appliance that may well be costing you a fortune.
Money-saving expert TV presenter has explained that when it comes to which appliances you regularly use in your home this Autumn, there is one you should try and avoid as much as possible - the tumble dryer. With the warm summer months now a distant memory, so are the days of easily drying your laundry outside. It is tempting to run a cycle on your dryer each and every time you do a load of laundry in the name of getting everything you need dry as quickly as possible, but the expert has warned that this habit could be costing you "hundreds".
The financial expert has even labeled tumble dryers as "demon appliances" because of the huge amount they can add to your energy bills if you use them too often - as reported in , the expert noted they cost up to a pound each time you dry your clothes, towels, and sheets. Given just how many loads of laundry homes across the country have to do each year, this can add up seriously quickly, so Lewis recommends other options to dry your clothes that are far cheaper, noting "you really don't want to use [Tumble dryers] because it's really expensive".
Whilst the very cheapest option is simply hanging your laundry to dry on a clothes horse - many people are rightly concerned about the levels of condensation and correspondingly mould growing in their homes, which leads to the temptation to run the tumble dryer to make sure moisture isn't lingering in the air. Whilst this will still be a toll on your energy bills, it will on average be far lower than relying on your tumble dryer and has the added bonus of removing the threat of mould and speeding up drying times on your clothes horse.
